Primary Brass offers teachers and young brass instrumentalists twelve short new pieces that can be played in two or three parts. The titles are intended to encourage schools to create opportunities for their pupils to perform as part of their day, almost like a touring band, called upon to play at sports days, in assembly, or even as background music during a rainy lunchtime.

The parts are very easy - really intended for up to grade one (or perhaps grade two for the one piece in 6/8), and the pieces have been written so that range shouldn't be an issue even for the least developed embouchures. Based on repetitive phrases and simple imitative counterpoint between the parts, the pieces are designed for young brass players to get results fast, making for a satisfying introduction to the joy of participating in an ensemble.
